VegaStream - VoIP for Home and Business - Understanding the Difference

Filed under: School of Telecommunication — admin @ 6:53 pm

Instant messaging worked its way into the corporate space as employees used products such as AOL’s Instant Messaging service as a convenient way to get round email and voicemail over load and to find out whether the person you want to speak to is actually at their desk. In a similar vein, IT research firm Gartner predicts that by 2007 20% of all companies will have adopted plans that accommodate the fact that employees own the notebook PCs they use at work.

However, there is one exception to this trend, and that is Voice over IP (VoIP) or Internet Protocol Telephony (IPT) as it is also known. Companies such as Skype have done much to demonstrate the potential for VoIP to let people talk with each other across the globe for practically no charge. All the major ISPs and search engine sites (Google, Yahoo, and MSN) are rolling out consumer VoIP services. Yet with few exceptions, there is little sign that these consumer services are being used by people in the workplace.

There are a number of technical reasons for this, most notably the potential for consumer VoIP services to compromise the enterprise’ IP network security. However the primary reason is that the demands on the telephone in the office simply cannot be met by the somewhat cumbersome and restricted, point-to-point service offered by consumer VoIP services. Today’s office voice communication systems feature call forwarding, voice mail, conferencing, hunt groups, hold and divert. These are not widely available in the basic consumer VoIP offerings. Furthermore, the PC-based VoIP offering does not provide the essential and convenient function of simply dialling a 10 to 12-digit number to make a call.

Enterprise VoIP products offer these features, and a whole lot more. With all messages data and real-time communications (such as voice, video and instant messaging) carried over the same IP network, there is opportunity for very rich communications sessions. For example, a colleague sends you an email within which there is an icon that lets you know that the colleague is available to take a call to discuss the content of the message. By clicking that icon, your colleague’s phone rings and you talk; the colleague could be sitting at a desk anywhere in the organisation, or even at home on a broadband “extension” to the enterprise network, and the phone next to him or her would ring because the IP network knows where he or she is.

Cost is another major reason why VoIP cannot be lifted directly from the home to the workplace. To fully deploy VoIP in the office with all the new features of a converged IP platform, a company will be encouraged to spend money on new desk top devices; just as the consumer will have to buy a sufficiently fast PC and a headset to accommodate a consumer VoIP service. Most finance directors will struggle to sign off a business case to simply replace a serviceable piece of equipment (such as the company phone system) with something that for all intents and purposes does the same thing.

However, by implementing a gateway between their existing telephone equipment and the new VoIP services, businesses can realise the potential for external calls being carried over the Internet at vastly reduced costs compared to using the Public Switched Telephone Network. VoIP gateways convert the signals used by existing telephone equipment into those that can be carried and switched over the Internet. Many businesses are using VoIP gateways to connect to the new generation of IP-based phone companies or to carry calls between company sites for free using its existing wide area IP network.

It is only a matter of time before all communications, including telephony and mobile, are carried over IP and we will not be able to tell the difference between consumer and business VoIP - just as we see little difference between a home phone and one in the office today. However, for the time being the two remain distinct propositions and the enterprise must be careful when considering deploying a consumer orientated VoIP service instead of one that is designed for the business need.

Formed in 1998, VegaStream is one of the most experienced players in the industrial VoIP market. The company supplies gateway CPE to both traditional telecommunications carriers and the new generation of Internet telephony service providers. VegaStream also serves the enterprise market through a global network of distributors and resellers supported by regional offices in the UK, USA and Australia. VegaStream is a non-listed UK company. Investors include the management team, Pace Micro Technology PLC and MTI Partners. http://www.vegastream.com

Tornado Maker

Filed under: Web Of Videos — admin @ 4:44 am

Each year in the United States we get thousands of very high-powered Tornadoes. Hundreds of these cyclones become very serious to population bases, which are in their vicinity. Severe weather is a common occurrence when cold and warm fronts meet and severe thunderstorms can cause huge energy events and turbulence creating Tornadoes. Hurricanes often also create Tornadoes beyond their eyes to their outer bands.

It takes a lot of energy and turbulence to create a good sized Tornado, but once started often they grow and have a mind of their own, collecting everything in their path like a Super Shop Vac. Mother Nature creates incredible weather events which leave onlookers, meteorologists and their victims in utter awe and horrific terror. Is it possible for mankind to create storms and tornadoes of this magnitude? Well, it just very well may be. How so you ask?

It has been proposed recently by me that we use high-powered high-energy lasers to create tornadoes under full control and collect the date. Make the Tornadoes so they spin the opposite way of nature so they will dissipate once made rapidly. Then use this data to create anti-Tornado Tornadoes to attack killer Nature caused Tornadoes and then dissipate quickly. Think on this in 2006.

Continually Trying But Still Falling Short Of Your Business

Filed under: Business Opportunities — admin @ 8:20 pm

Are you continually trying in the hope of earning the level of income you want from your Internet business activities? Is discouragement starting to creep into your thinking? Most people keep on trying in the hope of one day succeeding. However, you won’t succeed unless you address these two key factors.

The first factor is “keep on trying”. Some people do the same thing over and over again and never learn from the experience. It’s like continually running into a brick wall in the hope of eventually breaking through. Alternatively, they constantly join new affiliate programs or network marketing companies in the belief that this is the magic one to bring them riches. However, they never devote enough effort or attention to any one program to succeed in it.

The second factor is “hope”. For some people, they almost have a blind faith that they will succeed. Yet, they don’t understand what is involved in being successful. It’s almost as if they expect that one day circumstances will change and orders will flow in great abundance along with the profits.

For me, the key to “trying until I succeed” is based on testing and tracking. It is like a circular process whereby an idea is implemented, the results are tracked and then evaluated, the idea is refined or modified based on what has been learnt, and the process starts all over again.

If you aren’t earning what you want from your business, you have nothing to lose by applying this concept. First, look at what you are doing to promote your business. Are you using the same advertising you have always used? Do you know if it is working? Test a new headline and track the results. Test a new offer and see what happens to your sales.

Only test one thing at a time so that you know what is causing any changes in your results. Once you have a good performing ad, use it as your benchmark against which all future tests are measured.

The same concept can be applied to all your processes and procedures within your business. Make some changes and test whether they enable you to perform more efficiently and have more time to do the really important activities that generate revenue.

Now let’s look at the second factor, “hope”. I once read that genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration. The same can be said of success. The 1 percent is in setting the goal and the 99 percent is working hard to achieve it. Success doesn’t just happen, it is created by sustained effort and continual learning.

Hope certainly helps to sustain the effort required to succeed, but hope without effort is wasted. Success is based on many small wins that eventually lead to the big win. This understanding of what success really is helps the achievers do what needs to be done.

It is applied to business through goal setting and planning. You set your goal and then determine what you need to do to achieve it. Most successful businesses utilize budgets and business plans as a formalized process of mapping out what is required to achieve the targets they have set.

They then measure their results against these plans so that they know how well they are doing. This enables them to fine tune their plans to take into account new things they have learnt about their market-place and business. It also enables them to take corrective action before it is too late.

To have the success you want in your business, plan how you are going to achieve it. Test the ideas you have and track the results. Use the knowledge gained to improve all aspects of your business. Be opening to learning opportunities so that you can adapt and modify your approach as circumstances change.

Reconcile or Move On, How to Decide

Filed under: Business Opportunities — admin @ 11:19 pm

Should I Reconcile? You are older and wiser now, with an experience or two, and a decision to make.

Your desire to reconcile is often a desire to live the dream. To revive your passions and the hopes you lived in the beginning. To return to ‘Go’ and start over with a new role of the dice.

Purhaps reconciliation is not your own desire, but forced upon you like a load of dirty laundry. Forced upon you by silent and sullen children. Forced upon you by a repentant spouse, full of promises and needs greater than your own. Forced upon you by family, religion, and tradition of the day.

Should I reconcile? Should I accept the hurt, the pain, and call it a day? Can I face the unknown, or is there more comfort in this familiar but battered arena? Yes, you are older and wiser now, with a decision to make.

How to Decide

Take a blank piece of paper, any paper, and if you are inclined you can create a spreadsheet or flow chart, it matters not the medium. Across the top draw a single line, and down the centre draw another line. At the top on one side write the word STAY. The other side gets MOVE ON.

There is no secret or trick to this; simply write down every reason or excuse for saving or ending your marriage. This writer remembers being asked to make a list of all the possible uses for the lowly paper clip. Writing down one use leads to another and another, the list reached 50 ideas within two minuets. At another table their list numbered 110. The point my friend is to just jot down, pro and con. Your list might take a life of its own, growing hour by hour, day by day.

At least three things will happen.
- You will come to a decision.
- You will have clearer understanding of the issues.
- You have the beginings of a course of action

Staying means taking action and making one more commitment to your marriage. That commitment is not yours alone. You both have issues to resolve. It is not prudent to take the easy road by ducking the issues. Face them head on. Pay the price in the currency of hard work and honest communication, without it couples often fall back into old habits. A recommendable course of action is joint marriage counselling, and in many cases joint financial counselling.

Moving on means acceptance, and closes the option of going back into the marriage. While it may be sad, it also frees you to look to your future without the complications of all the “what if’s”. Moving on can be like passing Go and collecting your $200, knowing the next trip around the block might be better than the last.

What Depression Really Means

Filed under: Business Opportunities — admin @ 4:40 pm

At lunch the other day, a good friend said he thought he was depressed. His aunt had died recently and he had lost an important contact at work. I commented that while he might be depressed, it might also be that he was simply feeling appropriate sadness over some disappointing losses.

What this conversation reminded me of is how our culture can take a psychological term such as depression and apply it to almost any and all situations, thus losing the real meaning.

Let’s take a look at three distinct emotional states commonly lumped together as depression. We will look at characteristics of each and what you can do about them.

The blues

“And I guess that’s why they call it the blues…” - Elton John

The blues are simply a temporary feeling of sadness. Often, they cannot be linked to any particular event or situation.

Characteristics can include a mild feeling of restlessness; a temporary loss of energy and a sort of mopiness.

The blues make you want to curl up on the couch with a good book, or maybe channel surf. You just want to escape.

The blues usually pass rather quickly, and the trick is to just keep on going. Having the blues usually doesn’t indicate a problem.

Sadness

“Sad eyes, turn the other way.” - Robert John

Sadness, on the other hand, can usually be linked with events or situations. Sadness is a very normal and natural emotional state. Often times, a feeling of sadness is a normal response to the disappointments of life.

In the example of my friend who was afraid he was depressed, it would be normal for him to feel sad over his recent losses and disappointments.

What seems to happen to many people is that, instead of one or two disappointing events occurring far apart, many things happen all at once. There is a “pile-up” of disappointments and losses, resulting in a feeling of being overwhelmed.

Typically, when you add up all the recent painful events in a person’s life, the question changes from “how could I be feeling this way?” to “how could I not be feeling this way?”

While sadness is a normal human emotion, our culture does not make many allowances for it. We have been taught either to find a quick fix or to fight the feeling.

But with sadness, as with many emotions, the more you resist, the more it persists.

My suggestions for dealing with sadness include simply feeling what you feel and allowing it to run its course; taking a few
days to relax, talking with friends and family, and perhaps talking things over with a counselor.

Depression

“Stayed in bed all mornin’ just to pass the time.”- Carole King

True depression can come in many forms. Clinical depression, post-partum depression and bi-polar disorder are all treatable forms of depression.

Characteristics can include the following:

• sleeping more, or less

• eating more, or less

• loss of energy

• loss of interest in hobbies, etc.

• mood swings

• feelings of helplessness or hopelessness

• thoughts of suicide

Any of the true forms of clinical depression call for a combination of psychotherapy and antidepressant medication.

Check with your physician and a therapist familiar with treating depression.

Whether it’s the blues; sadness or clinical depression, we all go through low times in life.

The smartest and strongest folks are the ones who know how and when to ask for help and then make sure they get it.

Dry Eye After Lasik Vision Correction

Filed under: Business Opportunities — admin @ 12:17 am

Laser Lasik surgery often results in Lasik dry eyes. It’s nothing serious and it only last for a few days, but it is one of the side effects of the surgery

Think about it. The Lasik surgeon uses the laser to slice a tiny hinged corneal flap on the surface of your eye. That is to allow the laser to reshape the inner corneal surface of your eye. After the procedure the flap must heal and re-bonding with the surface of the cornea. During the first day or two the laser surgery leaves the eye feeling dry and slightly scratchy.

Don’t worry about that flap. It is quickly situated comfortably back against the cornea, where it should be. Your eyes are able to heal themselves and that is exactly what will be taking place after laser Lasik surgery. Now all you have to do is to protect your eyes and let the healing take place.

Complete healing of the corneal flap may take up to 24 months. During those months healing should not be a concern and it should not cause a vision problem. Your vision will be corrected far before that, so you only concern will be to stick with you follow up visits to your Lasik surgeon.

Many doctors want your first follow up appointment to be within 24-hours of your surgery. After Lasik vision surgery your healing process must be monitored and any adjustments be made during the post-op period.

Eye drops during your post-op program will avoid the dry eye after Lasik discomfort that is common. You will be applying the eye drops for the first two-to-four weeks after your procedure. The drops will help alleviate the “Lasik and dry eye” discomfort many experience during the initial healing period.

Pain is rare with the procedure. Lasik surgery patients control any slight discomfort with Tylenol or Advil. Anything containing aspirin is not advised.

Many find that an ice pack lightly held to the treated eye for twenty minutes is very soothing. If you apply the ice for less than 20 minutes you may not feel the beneficial effects. On the other hand if you leave the ice on longer than 20 minutes it can become more irritating than soothing.

The ice pack should be wrapped in a clean towel before you apply it. Applying the ice pack for 20 minutes three or four times a day for the first two days can provide all the relief needed. Consult your doctor before using the ice pack, of course.

If you have used the eye drops suggested by your doctor and your eyes still feel dry, try wearing sunglasses. Strange as it sounds, light sensitivity can be confused with dry eyes - it feels very similar.

Your risk of complications after having Lasik surgery depends upon a number of factors. One is the state of your pre-operative vision. The worse your eyes were before the surgery the greater chance you may require touch-up surgery.

Touch-up surgery is not highly unusual and is usually included in the cost of the Lasik treatment program. It doesn’t happen often, but you must be prepared if your surgeon says it will be necessary.

In most cases the dramatic vision improvement with Lasik laser surgery is certainly worth any slight discomfort you may experience. Lasik and dry eyes is the most common complaint and that is short lived. Just be sensible and protect your eyes after Lasik surgery and enjoy your improved vision.

Wholesale Distributors

Filed under: Business Opportunities — admin @ 4:43 pm

Distribution is the process of purchasing, storing, and distributing products when required. Wholesale distribution is the process of purchasing the products directly from the suppliers or manufacturers and reselling them to the retailers without transforming them in any way. They products are stored in warehouses and sold when there is a demand.

Many wholesale distributors assemble, sort, pack and sell the goods they offer. This is called bulk breaking. The warehouse infrastructure requirement is based on the type of products stored. For example, pharmaceutical products require the products to be maintained at a certain temperature and wholesale distributors of pharmaceutical products must have a facility for refrigeration.

Apart from saving money for their customers, wholesale distributors reduce risks to suppliers and customers by maintaining inventories. Their other functions include quick delivery, financing customers through credits, supplying information about the market to the manufacturers, and bearing risks by absorbing the costs of damage.

Wholesale distributors choose their target market. They then find profitable customers and build strong relationships with them. They decide the inventory and maintain sufficient stock for immediate delivery. The goods are purchased in bulk and hence the wholesalers pay low prices. Then they mark them up by a percentage. The wholesalers also promote their products apart from deciding the location of distribution. They sometimes promote their products using the reputation of their suppliers.

Over the last ten years, the wholesale industry in US has accounted for one quarter of the productivity improvements in the economy. Some wholesale distributors also offer drop ship facilities. Drop shipping involves shipping the products directly to the end customers. This allows retailers to get products at wholesale prices and focus their efforts on selling their products without worrying about logistics.

Wholesale Distributors provides detailed information on Wholesale Distributors, DVD Wholesale Distributors, Wholesale Clothing Distributors, Wholesale Food Distributors and more. Wholesale Distributors is affiliated with Candle Wholesalers.

So What Are You Afraid of Anyway?

Filed under: Business Opportunities — admin @ 12:41 am

So often we see people making excuses of why they cannot do something or accomplish something. When we observe them and their main underlining excuse is that they are indeed afraid; Afraid of what; afraid of failure, competence level and fear of loss. But challenge is a wonderful thing and without pain there is no gain and you cannot discover new worlds if you never lose sight of the shore. You see there is conquering fear needs to be part of the reason to go for it and not necessarily the reason to forget the plan.

Recently I talked with a gal who was trying to decide which college to go to as she was accepted to four different colleges. The one that she really wanted to go to in order to chase her dream was far away, she did not know anyone there and she was scared and was thinking she would skip it and go to another college that three of her friends were accepted too. When she discussed this with me, it was obvious this was a case of fear.

And if fear is driving her decision what about the opposite fear? What if you went thru life and never tried to do the things you wanted to do because you were afraid and then in your old age reflecting back you said;

“I really wish I would have done that instead and I wonder what might have been?”

You see that is my biggest fear, what if I am afraid and I fail to conquer fear and live in mediocrity like 80% of the rest of the folks out there? Well, that is a risk I will not take and therefore I will take risks. Consider this philosophical thought in 2006.
