People use those automated cash cows called auto surfs for only one reason: they present an opportunity to make big money online for doing absolutely nothing. Auto surfs are exciting because they do pay, and always greatly in excess of what you’ll make in traditional money markets. They are risky because they tend to only last for a few months, although some have lived to up to two years.

Auto surfs are simply web sites that present other web sites in an automated manner: you get to see a particular site for several seconds, then go on to the next one. If you do this each day - viewing anywhere from a half-dozen to a hundred “page views”, depending on the auto surf in question, - you are given a payment which represents a percentage of what you initially deposited.

Know this: auto surfs are not the place to go if you wish to promote your web site. Most people don’t even bother to look at the auto surf’s ads as they fill their quota of “views” for the day. Granted, some people will look at the displayed pages, at least to some extent. But those people are typically internet marketers looking for another business opportunity. Moral: unless you like paying to preach to the choir, look for other ways to find real buyers.

So what about the money? Two of the industry’s leading sites provide fairly normal illustrations of the payouts involved.

Auto surf grand-daddy Studio Traffic pays 1% of your deposit daily, and pays you at the end of the month. So, if you deposit $500 you will make $5 a day for the month, simply for viewing 100 auto surf web pages.

This amounts to $150 a month, or 30% interest on your $500. It would take you fifteen years to make that much at the banks, assuming an annual payment of 2.5%. One downside with Studio Traffic’s system is that you must keep your deposit in their system. This means that you have to stay in the game for 4 months before you have made your deposit back and earned interest , 20% interest as you would have earned $600 by that time, based on your original $500.

12DailyPro only requires entrants to view 12 sites a day, and it pays much more than Studio Traffic. With 12DailyPro each cycle lasts 12 days instead of one month (as with Studio Traffic). When the cycle ends, you get your entire deposit plus 44%.

If you entered with $500, you are given a total back of $720.

You can enter 12DailyPro with anything from $6 to $6,000. At the high end of the range, $6,000, your 44% profit every two weeks or so is precisely $2,640. This means that if 12DailyPro lasts for 6 months from here in December, you would have a banked profit of about $35,000 over and above your original $6,000. (Your $6,000 would rise to $8,640 at the end of each cycle, and you would only be able to put $6,000 of this $8,640 back in the system. Therefore, you would have to take $2,640 out of the system and into your own pocket every two weeks. This strategy can be implemented at any level, simply by pocketing only your profits at the end of each cycle and reinvesting an amount that’s always equal to what you had originally deposited. For instance you could deposit $100 and take out $44 every cycle. In this case it would take 3 cycles, or about a month and three weeks, to assure profit.

From this it becomes obvious that we need to ask a core question whenever considering entering any auto surf game: How long has this program been around?

In the case of Studio Traffic the answer is “about two years” and with 12DailyPro, it’s “a few months”. While the past is no guarantee of future performance, this is vitally important information to know because most auto surfs are built with the intention to disappear as soon as enough people sign up. An entirely normal scam might run for sic to eight months, until one day when you go to the site it’s simply not there, and neither is your money. According to industry expectations, 12DailyPro will probably have to run for another eight or nine months before it’s not considered a potential fly-by-night cyber gig - whatever that means in the morally ambiguous world of auto surfs.

I wasn’t kidding when I said that people only go into auto surfs for the money. It’s an online parlour game with a profoundly backward business model. Auto surf like to play up the idea that their sites produce real value, namely a well-paid audience faithfully views the web sites they display in automated form. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Unless you like to pay for preaching to the choir, auto surfs are not the place to park your advertising dollars. There is absolutely no need for a member to actually look at the screen while an auto-responder program is running - and guess what?? Most people don’t.

They just let the program run automatically until they fulfill their daily quota of surfs - and the auto surf companies know this. Studio Traffic actually has a system in place where you can let the person in your “upline” view for you. How’s that for advertising value!?

So just be clear about one thing. Auto Surfs are cash cows. The only thing that matters is how long they last.

Therefore, your bottom line risk with Studio Traffic is 4 months. With 12DailyPro the minimal risk is 12 days - if you get in and get out and stay out, by the end of the first 12-day cycle you are up 44% over how much you put in, period.

That might seem like a way better bet, but 12DailyPro has been around for only a few months. Most of the scam auto surfs last this long, and the slimier ones will always make sure that the promised payout is relatively superior.

How else might one sort out the good from the bad in Auto Surf Land? Another helpful indicator is the quality of the auto surf web site. By the way, a great place to make comparisons is by signing on to an auto surf for free and seeing what sites you are supposed to view in order to earn credits. Most of them will be auto surfs! You’ll soon see that many of them look like they were literally thrown together. Watch also for spelling mistakes as a lot of greedy eastern European con artists are entering this game, without taking the time to learn how dupe the public using proper English.

Going the other way, the more a professional looking web site is, the more likely it is to be well conceived, and positioned to stick around. Be sure to always check the quality of their support and if the site is paying. Furthermore some auto surfs, like 12DailyPro, will make claims of pending events that suggest they are here to stay. These claims can and should be researched. 12DailyPro claims that they will be having a conference in late February - about two and a half months from the time of this writing. That roughly represents 5 of their 12-day cycles, meaning that if I deposited $1,000 today, my money would grow to $6,192 by the weekend of the conference if I continually reinvested with an eye towards getting everything out as soon as the conference ends.

The most important thing to understand is that auto surfs are gambles and not investments. This is the place to put some of your throw-away money to work, not the stuff you’re putting away for Junior’s college.

What do Dr. Vic Fey, an obstetrician from Clinton, Oklahoma, and Erick Brenes, a farmer from Costa Rica have in common? They both made it to the final table of The World Poker Tour’s Aruba Poker Classic. And what makes it more remarkable is they won their $6,000 buy-in and the trip to Aruba by playing a $27 satellite tournament at the online poker room, Ultimate Bet. Neither of these men are professional poker players but at the end of the tournament Vic Fey finished in 6th place and won $105,000 and Erick Brenes finished in first and went home to Costa Rica $1,417,000 richer. Not bad for a $27 investment.

What are satellites and how do they work? Basically a satellite is a way to enter a major tournament and play for big money without having to pay the large buy-in required. For example, the buy-in for the World Series of Poker (WSOP) is $10,000. An on-line poker room could sponser a tournament with a $1,350 buy-in (they will also charge somewhere around 9-10% for a registration fee). For every 10 players in the tournament there would be a prize pool of $13,500, enough for the single buy-in to the WSOP and some extra for spending money. So for a $1,350 you could win your entry to the major tournament. If there are 100 players then the players who finish in one of the top 10 positions would be on their way to Las Vegas and a chance at $10,000,000, the estimated top prize in this years tournament.

A thousand dollars is still a little steep if you ask me but you’re dying to play in the WSOP. So you go to an online poker site like Royal Vegas Poker. There, they have a way for you to make it to the World Series for as little as $1. It takes six steps and works like this:

Step 1: You pay a $1 buy-in and a $.10 registration fee. You play against ten other players. If you come in first or second you’ve made it to step two.

Step 2: You enter this tournament by either coming in first or second in step 1 or by directly buying in for $5 + $0.50.
Come in first or second and you move on to step three. Come in third and you get to play level 2 again free.

Step 3: Same deal. Enter by placing 1st or 2nd in the previous step or buy-in for $22.50 + $2.25. The final 2 players get free entry to step four and third place lets you repeat step 3 and pays you $2.75.

Step 4: The buy-in for this level is $100 + $10. Come in first or second and go to step 5. Come in third and play step 4 over again.

Step 5: If you happen to have $450 + $45 you can buy-in to this level. If you’ve were lucky enough to come in 1st or 2nd the previous step, it costs you nothing. The first two finishers go to the final step, third place gets to play step 5 again.

Step 6: You’ve made it to the final step. Of course you can just cough up the $1,350 + $135 to play in this game or you might have gotten here all the way from step one for $1. In either case, finish 1st in this ten player table and you’re on your way to the WSOP. Come in 2nd and you win $1,000.

This is just one example of an on-line poker site’s roadmap to the WSOP. At FullTilt poker you can get there for as little as $4. And they have a promotion in which if you gain entry to the tournament through their site and win the $10 Million at the WSOP, they will match it with an additional $10 Million.

Party Poker has satellites starting at $9,InterPoker can get you there for $10, and UltimateBet has games for as little as $3.

There are even some sites where you can gain entry through freerolls (tournaments with no entry fees).

There are all sorts of tournaments like this at many different online poker sites and they all follow the same basic pattern. You buy-in at a low level to win entry into a higher level tournament. I narrowly missed making it to the PartyPoker millions tournament with a $10,000 buy-in and a prize pool of $7.5 Million. For $6 I worked my way up to the finals where I needed to come in one of the top 4 positions. Unfortunately I finished 9th, but there’s always next year. And boy, did I get a lot of entertainment and excitement for my $6.

My diary says that today is the Winter Solstice, the official first day of winter and the shortest day of the year! In the northern hemisphere, the Winter solstice is day of the year when the Sun is farthest south. However, in the southern hemisphere, winter and summer solstices are exchanged, so that the winter solstice is the day on which the Sun is farthest north. (So this may not apply to you!) For many people the Winter Solstice is heralded as a turning point, and as a reminder that in order for a new path to begin, the old one must end and that spring will come again. In many societies and religions, this turning point is celebrated with feasting and flames which light up the dark winter nights. It is a time of celebration for what has gone before and a time to look to the future.

Today I am keen to review and reflect on everything that has taken place since the last Winter Solstice. I have had an incredible year, both personally, as well as professionally, and I can look back at even my most testing times and feel satisfied that I have managed to get something from each situation. Sometimes it seemed like I was going backwards, but taking everything into consideration, I can see I have moved forward greatly. I haven’t done this alone, but with the support of the most amazing group of people which include family, friends, my trainer, other coaches, business and networking contacts, business advisors, and not least, my wonderful clients, who certainly keep me on my toes!

What about you? When you look back over the year, what do you see? Take a moment to reflect on what the last 12 months have offered you in the way of challenges and achievements. What were your greatest triumphs, your most challenging moments? How did you handle them? What did you learn from them? And don’t forget the small things that make up everyday living. For some people, just getting through each day is an achievement. Celebrate the little things as well. They may be small, but they should never be overlooked.

Did you actually have any goals at the beginning of this period? If you did, were they SMART - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-driven? How far have you progressed? What more do you need to do?

What are the things that you find you consistently put off? Is there a pattern here? How can you learn from this? What do you need to do to break the pattern? Who do you need to get assistance from?

In the last 12 months, how much time did you give to yourself? Without allowing yourself time to recharge and reenergize, you will not be fit to go forward with anything. Like a rubber band that has been pulled tighter and tighter, something will eventually give - SNAP!

How have your stamina and fitness levels held up over the year? Are you full of energy, raring to go, or do you find yourself flagging? Adding activity to your day takes consideration and determination, but it can be done, and in very simple ways. If you need to make changes here then the first step is to look at your daily routines and see where you can add a little more in the way of movement and action.

How many times did you have that conversation in your head? You know, the one that goes like this “Why on earth didn’t I say ‘no’ to that? I can’t believe I didn’t speak up! I do this all the time. I am pushed to the limit and I still accept more work, more commitments. Oh why, why didn’t I say ‘no’?” Ring any bells? No? Good for you. Yes? We need to talk about assertiveness!

What new things do you do this year? Did you go somewhere you’ve never been before? Did you speak to someone new? Did you learn a new language? How about trying some new food? There are so many new experiences waiting out there for you! Go ahead, if you haven’t tried anything yet! And if you have, please carry on. Each new experience will teach you not only about what is out there, but how you respond to fresh and novel occasions.
So, did you write? Paint? Sing? Make music? Cook? In what ways do you enjoy expressing yourself creatively? How can you do more of it in the next 12 months?

Did you do something for nothing? What does this actually mean to you? It can relate to the monetary cost of something or perhaps the cost to you in time and effort. It is such a personal thing that only you can assess how you have achieved in this area. I hope looking back over the year gives you a sense of satisfaction at what you have achieved.

I’ve made an amazing discovery.

Your life, and mine, is filled with a series of what I have called Refining Moments. In the middle of these is one KRM or Key Refining Moment. When discovered this KRM brings a flood of understanding of the meaning for your life and enables you to release a special talent to be a blessing to others.

In my morning prayer time in the forest at the back of our home I had been asking the Lord, for some months, to reveal the meaning and purpose for my life. Once I was prepared to wait forever for an answer,it came. In a most unexpected way. Some have said that you should be careful what you pray because sooner or later you will get what you pray for. I did.

I was reminded of an experience I had just after my fourth birthday.

Filled with expectation my mother was taking me to the State Fair. A visit to the Animal Nursery was promised and once again I’m back there, getting off the tram, with a beaming smile, being led by the hand to the ticket office where my Mother purchases our tickets.

I can see the bulls in the main arena and the colored tents in sideshow alley. I hear the drums summoning patrons to new and exciting experiences inside the tents.

And now I see a group of kids. Some in wheelchairs. Some standing. But all with bodies twisting and twitching in ways I had never seen before. Noticing my rising alarm, my Mother tells me they are the special kids from the Spastic Center.

As she explains that they will always be that way I begin to sob. Buckets of tears cascade down my little pink cheeks as I think of their suffering. I fall to the ground sobbing even harder unable to control myself.

I feel a pain deep on the inside and I want to get away from this place. I plead with my Mother to take me home. It seems to take a long time but eventually she walks me back to the tram terminus.

As we begin the journey home one thought floods my mind.

I want to help make them better.

As I return, across 53 years of life experience, from my time of reflection on the past, I realize that my central desire is still to help make them better.

I havn’t done it yet but I want to. There is a fire in my desire.

I have been a bank teller, an economist, a teacher, and a youth worker but still I havn’t gotten started. I’m sad I’ve yet to start. I guess that’s a common experience for a babyboomer. However I am glad I discovered why I’m here on this planet.
